Pier Studios offers a range of short courses to share Pier Productions’ twenty five years of radio expertise. These include weekend and evening courses for adults and courses for children during term time and the school holidays.   We’re also able to create a bespoke course for you.

Would you like to write a short radio play and see it performed, recorded and edited over a weekend?

This weekend workshop for writers new to radio will be tutored by the award winning writer Nicholas McInerney who wrote four series of Radio 4’s “How to Have a Perfect Marriage”, starring Greg Wise and Julia Ford, based on his own experiences of coming out as a gay man after 19 years of marriage.

Nicholas will explore with you the secrets of really good writing for the voice, conjuring up the best pictures through sound, acoustics and music. You will also get the chance to work with actors, using all kinds of microphone techniques to help tell your story. You will work on your own short two hander ready to record with our two resident actors on the Sunday afternoon.

There will also be a guide to the commissioning process and how to write a treatment.

This is a weekend where you leave as a produced writer with a USB key of your radio play - a writers' weekend with a difference.  Do join us!
