Pier Studios offers a range of short courses to share Pier Productions’ twenty five years of radio expertise. These include weekend and evening courses for adults and courses for children during term time and the school holidays. We’re also able to create a bespoke course for you.
Would you like to write a short radio play and actually see it recorded over a weekend? Sure, plenty of courses concentrate on the writing, but think how much more you would learn if it was actually performed, recorded, and edited?
That’s what we’re going to do. This is a weekend workshop for Radio writers new to the medium. Tutored by the award winning writer Nicholas McInerney who wrote four series of Radio 4’s “How to Have a Perfect Marriage”, starring Greg Wise and Julia Ford, based on his own experiences of coming out as a gay man after 19 years of marriage.
Not only will Nicholas explore with you the secrets of really good writing for the voice, conjuring up the best pictures through sound, acoustics and music, but you will also get the chance to work with Actors, using all kinds of microphone techniques to help tell your story as well as possible. Each delegate will work on their own short two hander ready to record with our two resident actors on the Sunday afternoon.
There will also be a guide to the commissioning process and how to write a treatment.
So this isn’t just another writers weekend. This is a weekend you arrive as writers and leave as produced writers, a USB key of your radio play in your sweaty palms! This is a writers weekend with a difference.
